On its opening day, the show will feature a postmark commemorating the 50th anniversary of the launch of the Sputnik 1 satellite (the world's first artificial satellite) by the Soviet Union on 4 Oct 1957. In a letter to me, Thomas Fortunato, Special Events Coordinator/ROPEX Exhibits Chairman, states, "It was decided to have the actual satellite [Sputnik 1] on the cachet, while depicting the image of the craft [Sputnik 3] on the cancel."
